Blog Tours for Authors

These days, it’s not enough for your book to simply come out and be available to readers.  Authors need to put themselves out there and interact, both on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter (I’ll get into Google+ later on), as well as forums and blog tours.

Today, we’re going to discuss blog tours.  Blog tours are important because they can direct a large amount of readers to you and thereby, your book.  It gives you the opportunity to speak to the reader, to get them interested in your story and your writing.  Create the buzz! Blog tours can be done either through an interview, guest post, or whatever else you can think of.

PROS:

  • get your name out to what may be a new fan base
  • the more times you blog, the more times your name and book gets out there and reflects in the Google results
  • directs traffic to you

CONS:

  • it takes time to do.  It takes work to set up and then write the posts
  • content.  Watch that you don’t post something you’ll regret saying later on.  There’s a lot of people who will see what you’ve written.  You don’t want to give them a negative impression so that they walk away.

Next week, we’ll discuss how to get the most of a blog tour.
